One of the things I do when I travel is to learn the basic language. Sometimes, I ask my foreign students to teach me the basics like how to say good morning, good afternoon or good evening. And I really find it amusing.
I enrolled Nihonggo this summer because the dean of the graduate school required me to do so (though it's not part of my curriculum). I am enjoying every moment of it. It's really very difficult though. Learning how write in Japanese it a different story. I don't think I would go that far. Hehehe!
